Do you still remember the delightful stretchy liquorice from the old days? That soft, stretchable liquorice that you happily pulled apart between your fingers, piece by piece... Good news: it’s back! Only it’s no longer called “trekdrop”, but Strekdrop.
What is Strekdrop?
Strekdrop is exactly what you remember from stretchy liquorice: a stretchable liquorice with the familiar taste and texture. It has returned to the Dutch market thanks to Felko Nederland, who have breathed new life into this nostalgic sweet.
How did it come back?
The return of Strekdrop was no simple matter: nearly two years were spent on the reintroduction. Small test batches were made to experiment with taste and texture, so it feels just like before. Since there was no reference point anymore (you could no longer buy the old stretchy liquorice), it was mainly about tuning to memory, feeling, and trial and error.
What is different – and what stays the same?
Taste
- As before: recognizable and familiar, almost identical to the classic stretchy liquorice.
- Possibly different: slight differences due to modern production and recipe optimisation.
Texture / stretchiness
- As before: soft and stretchable as you are used to.
- Possibly different: the stretchiness has even improved for extra “stretch”.
Packaging / brand
- As before: the look & feel evokes nostalgia.
- Possibly different: now under the own, recognizable name Strekdrop.
Why is this good news?
Memory & nostalgia: For many, stretchy liquorice brings warm memories. The return is a piece of sweet history you can experience again.
The demand was already there: Many people hoped that stretchy liquorice would one day return – and now it has.
